How do I remove this freehub (w/ pix)

I can’t for the life of me figure out how to remove this freehub. It is a somewhat generic wheel labled ‘Focus 20/20’. I assume it’s a Taiwan Special that I often see rebadged for different companies. Anyway, the two methods that I am aware of to remove a freehub are 1) Allen wrench into the axle 2) Pull the freehub off by hand (Hugi). The axle will not accept an allen wrench and I have tried to pull it off by hand with significant force with no luck.

Any ideas? This hub is practically brand new (less than 500 miles) and it already developed massive stiction and a gritty feel. Thanks for any advice.

FYI I know the blue carpet sucks. It was in my condo when I bought it.

Is there anywhere on the non drive side to place a cone wrench?

Negative, there is a cap over the bearing and when you remove that all that is left sticking out is the round axle. Thanks though.

hmm…remove that cap, tap with a rubber mallet on the non-drive side? perhaps

Demerly is AWOL. Record10 will know, I bet. I’ll summon him up from the pit where he keeps his women.

Can you post a pic of the non-drive side?

I know how you feel. I have a Hugi from way back. I have been riding with loose cones for about 4 years now. I am waiting to blow my rim up, so not to waste it. Basically you have to find a shop that has the $500.00 or so tools just to fix one hub or send it back to your distributor. I know this is not what you wanted to hear.

You generally need a free hub removing tool .

You insert it to unlock and turn it to unlock the hub then it will slide off.
