How do I remove paint from carbon fiber seatpost?

I have an easton carbon fiber seatpost that has really large and ugly red and yellow paint on it. Is there any way to get them off without messing up the carbon underneath? I’d love a solid black carbon weave post…

try acetone, it wont harm the carbon, although you will possibly have to re-apply a clear coat to the carbon.

Thanks, I just got impatient and used goof off. It took it off pretty easily and the clearcoat is still intact. I still have a little more to get off, but I’ll probably finish it off tomorrow.

Think I could do this on my QR Kilo’s fork?

Is it a painted fork you are trying to reveal the carbon weave on? If so, I guess you could do it, but it would take a while. If you’re just trying to remove some moderately-size QR painted logos, you should be able to do it depending on the clearcoat. My seatpost had painted logos but they didn’t appear to be under any clearcoat. If it’s the same case with your fork, you should not have much trouble getting the logo off.

I was thinking of taking all the paint of the fork and exposing the carbon, for the heck of it.

I bet you could do it, but it would be REALLY difficult, so I wouldn’t recommend it…

It is not difficult at all actually. I have done this with my older carbon forks. Most of the time however, there is filler under the paint so that the overall finish is smooth. If you are going to take the paint off just be prepared to find some not so nice carbon under the paint. What I eneded up doing was repainting the forks black where the red paint used to be. It turned out nice. I know after doing some more reading after that there are other things that I could have done to make the carbon look better for the next time.

Good Luck.
