How do I know when the bike shoes are toast?

Have a pair of sidi ‘genius’ shoes, probably 5-6 years old. I ride about 5K a year. Recently I have been having significant hot spots and pain over the metatarsals of both feet but especially the left. I bought new insoles hoping that would help but they seem to be slightly thicker than the originals and my feet were killing me today after 70 miles. Is it time for new shoes? Same bike, same pedals, postion, etc. Thanks…

when you can’t get the smell out and it’s offensive even to you! ; )

X2. Or (in my friend’s case) when the carbon sole come competely off and you have to use a velcro strap to hold it on for the last 20 miles of the ride.

I’m sure my shoes need to be replaced. I’ve got holes in the shoes where the tops of my toes are. Oh well; they still work fine.

If that were the case, I would be replacing mine monthly…

X3. I’ve got a pair of Sidi Dominator 2 (Google that for fun, see how old they are) MTB shoes, that are held together by dirt, memory, and inertia at this point.
But I still wear them whenever I ride my mtb. Bought their replacements about 6 years ago, and they are still sitting in the box in which they came.

As long as your SO will still let you in the house w/ them, and they attach your feet to the pedals, then you are good to go.
