How did you know your DA 7800 BB was done for? Feel or Noise?

…mind still feels smooth, but I’ve started to get a clicking from the BB. It’s tight, so are the chain bolts, but I think it’s the BB. I hear they only last 2-3000 miles…so maybe it’s time…

Hmm. Not good. What kind of frame Sir?

Good evening Tom, it’s Ti…no it’s not seized (Alu vs Ti), plenty of grease…what is the “tick, tick, tick”…?

The bearing are probably still good, but that stupid plastic hat washer thing has cracked. My bike shop pressed in some Enduro steel bearings. They spin great and were only about $30. The spindle fits precisely through the bearing, so they don’t use the plastic hat washer. Highly recommended if you don’t buy into the ceramic hype.

Hmmmmmmmm…interesting!? I’m pulling it apart again today, I’ll have a look.

Tom, or whoever else,

Come to think of it, My DA 7800 BB is a tad old as well. What do you recommend interms of cleaning, lubing, taking it apart, etc.? Are there instructions printed anywhere online?

Thanks.

My campy bb starts clicking in my Ti frame after every couple thousand miles. I’ve just pulled it out cleaned everything well, grease threads and reinstall. So far has worked.

That was my first thought, I’ve tried different greases also…driving me crazy. Oh, and the plastic insert is not cracked…darn, I was hoping…

Things to check…pedals, seat post, seat rails, front hub, stem bolts

as we are all aware, sounds do not always come from where we think they are while riding.

I noticed a creaking noise in my BB (an FSA isis) and took it to the LBS tohave it checked. It was like turning a pepper grinder when they pulled it out!

On the other hanh, I have about 12k miles on my DA 7800 BB with no issues.

Done, done, done, done, done…I remounted the BB today with Ti anti seize…let’s see how this works. Seemed good in the driveway, but then it did last time also…???

cleats, shoes, cracked frame

Mine is in a litespeed, and, actually, I have over 28k miles, not 12 as stated before on it(3 seasons). BTW, I gave up on anti seize a while ago. I use grease, seems to last longer and less toxic(to me).

Thanks for your comments. I actually thought it was the cleats/pedals at first, so I removed the pedals, put on some Eggbeaters and MTB shoes, but still had “click”. If this remount of the BB doesn’t help, or a swap from a friends, it might be the frame…although I did inspect this morning during the rebuild. Here’s hoping…!
