Just wondering how skiing was going for everyone this year. We’ve got lots of snow here on the Prairies, and better yet, our new house is located next to a beautiful, well groomed, lit skate trail, that seems to be used by only me! (and the odd jackass in a jeep that likes to go offroading after a few drinks…). Went out last night for an hour of double poling and it was super fast.
Well, I drove up to Mammoth Wednesday. It dumped almost 2 feet over 48 hours. Absolutely amazing. Made me wish I had a Swallowtail powder board…
I drove back to San Diego Sunday, but I think it is still snowing up there.
Here in the west we have had a series of storms the last few days. Local LA mountains are getting snow today. Mammonth is getting dumped on. Tribodyboarder drove up there yesterday for some powder. I’m sure I’ll give a first hand report.
Long range forecast is for more storms next weekend.
Sucks for my training, but we need the rain/snow…And I do miss skiing/snowboarding(:
I was out on Friday to Winter Park Tele Skiing. The coverage was good but there had not been any snow in about a week. Lots of sun in the day, and cold clear nights, makes for very hard, and fast conditions. As a result the bumps were not forgiving, and the tree skiing, well, was not great!
Went nordic skiing yesterday at Frisco Nordic Center and the track was hard, and fast in the morning, but got warm during the day.
Our snow is pretty much gone here in lower Michigan. I tried to ski on Satruday but it wasnt that great so I left. On a better note I rode my bike yesterday and I realized the benefits of skate skiing all winter. The hills just seemed alot easier on the bike and I havent really been riding my trainer that much at all.
Skated 32K Boulder Mountain Tour Saturday to a PR. The track was fast, hard but no ice, the conditions were the best in the 9 times I’ve done it. Ideal weather too, 15-20 degrees at Galena, 30 at finish at SNRA. No wind whatsoever.
Sunday skied Sun Valley (Baldy). Considering the skiffs of snow we’ve received since XMas, the mountain was in awesome shape. Couple of burners down Upper River Run and Holiday, with a few hits in Lefty Bowl and Seattle Ridge with the kid on the snowboard made for another stunning day (pix to follow).

These people seem to be a problem just about everywhere. Why is that?** **What part about the “Private Property” or “No Motorized Vehicles”, signs are these folks not understanding. Are they all illiterate?
I’ve not skied much this winter so far, due to some other issues. However, the snow conditions in Southern Ontario have been outstanding from the get-go with an early start and record amounts of snowfall to date. We have had a bit of a melt-down over the last few days. but the base is so deep and good that I am sure it will last for the duration of the winter or until people are skied out!
I actually came across one of them last night! his buick (buick!) was stuck on the skate trail. Mumbled something about ‘some idiot drove my car down onto the trails’. The other skier standing and staring in disbelief said to me “oh, I think i know who the idiot is”.

Their probably the same idiots that walk on the ski trails that are marked trails not for walkers.

Steve, sorry to say, they just don’t give a shit!

It’s amazing the level of idiocy. The stories can be quite interesting to when you question what on earth some of these guys are doing. Many are extraordinarily belligerent and rude with quick - &*%k-off, jerk - and a gunning of the motor of the ATV, jeep or snowmobile and off they go. That’s right, they are trespassing on private land where they should not be, and I am the jerk and being told to get lost. Makes perfect sense to me!!
I get that. The disturbing part is I have seen an extraordinary increase in the numbers of folks that fall into this group over the last number of years. Twenty years ago - not so many. Seemed to be much more mutual respect. These days - happens all the time. In my view another marker that the level of common sense and civility in our society has gone way down in the last 20 years. Much of what goes on is all about “me” - screw everyone else or any negative impact of what I am doing.

I agree. The sad part is your out for a nice day in the back country, hiking, skiing, etc. And something like that ruins your day. Kinda like the AHOLES when your on a bike ride.** **
But lets look at the bright side and get back to the OP…let it SNOW!
The last two winters in most part of Canada have been amazing - lots’ of snow and cold weather everywhere… My contacts in the Outdoor apparel, gear and ski businesses say that business has been great the last two years after a few years of really bad business.
Long range forecast says we’ll be buried by the end of the month…conditions were epic this morning on the mountain.
I’ve had “face shots” while boarding but last night I had to drive home and driving my AWD minivan through the unplowed road - I had a bunch of “windshield shots”…lucklily it was light and dry and I could plow through it. I was a bit worried I’d get stuck and I had no shovel and no clothes - at 230 a.m…but my minivan made it.
