Now that things have started to heat up and the sweat has started to flow off our heads, I was wondering how the new Oakley Radars were doing with their special coatings. Does sweat not build up on the lens like it does with the M frame lenses? Or is it simply a matter of a quick stream of water from a bottle cleaning them right off with no film or streaks left behind. I love my M frames, but at the height of summer I get maybe twenty minutes into a ride before they are covered with sweat that has me tilting my head all over to see through what clear bits of lens remain. I would invest in some Radars if they were appreciably better than the M frames in this regard.
Anyone care to offer some feedback?
Also does anyone know if they will offer any more polarized tints? I am in love with my grey and amber polarized M frame lenses.
Well, Tai and the others who hyped the Radars got me all fired up and I pulled the trigger the other day. I have been using M-Frames for the last 2 years. Rode with the Radars for the first time last night. We are going through a freak cold spell. It was about 50 degrees last night when I rode. So, no sweat, but, I can say that they did not fog up anywhere near as much as my M-Frames did. Ran in them later with the same results. So far, I really like them, but, I have limited time in them.
Planning of getting a pair also. with regard to your m-frames, what type of lens are you both currently using? sweep?hybrid or hybrid-s? does the smaller lens size make the fogging less or depends? still contemplating on getting my first pair of m-frames, using half jacket xljs now…
My wife and I have been wearing them in a wide range of temperature conditions and in rain. I just got Lasik two weeks ago so wearing them has been a real treat for me.
No issues- the sweat resistant coating does work. The perspiration film sheets off the inside of the lens somewhat remarkably. Rain on the outside of the lens did not bead. It simply ran off the lens and fell off.
The ear stem design is comfortable under helmets too. In general, the Radar is the natural evolution in the Oakley sport-specific lineage.
Here is my wife wearing the new Radar last Wednesday crossing the Grosse Ile:

I have the sweep for my M-Frames. I have black iridium, yellow, and grey lenses. I think the smaller lens means less fogging b/c more heat is released, rather than captured behind the lens, but, I am not certain.
If you have the M-Frames already, not sure you need to go with the Radars. But, if you are trying to decide between the M-Frames and the Radars, I would definitely go with the Radars b/c of the lens coating.
Got mine back in March after doing Powerman Alabama in old shades and having them fog up and sweat covered to where they were useless after about 10 miles on the bike.
With the Radars the sweat really does roll from my forehead on to the lens and right off. Amazing. My only complaint, however, is that they still fog up when the air temps are a bit cooler. For example, when I first start riding or running with them they are great. But after I heat up a bit and start sweating, then if I stop for any reason (like at a stop light) then they have a tendency to fog. The entire lens doesn’t fog, just some of it. When I start up again with the wind blowing they clear up pretty fast.
I wore mine down at Gulf Coast half in 90 degree heat and they worked like a charm on the bike and run. No fogging there and I didn’t have to wipe them clean during the entire race. They fit pretty snug. So in transition I have to put on shades first then helmet, otherwise straps of helmet get in the way. I do like the coverage of the lens. I had been wearing Optic Nerve on the bike and these give much better visability.
i`m leaning towards the radars but my lbs just called and told me that the pair i wanted just got it ( getting a blue frame with hybrid-s red irids) the radars are still out of stock just yet…
Tom, any wind getting to the eyes with the shallower lenses? I found that a problem with some on my Ms. I’m glad you mentioned that sweat runs off the inside of the lense too, that was a concern for me.
How are you coping with the Lasik? I bet that’s great, gonna have to change the lenses on a lot of your Oakleys now though, eh?
I think that is the brushed aluminum. If you look at the helmet, I believe that is the silver Giro, which looks quite washed out in that photo. I am guessing the frames are being washed out as well.
However, it could be the white chrome, which is available on the custom orders (which would explain the blue iridium lenses).
I wore the larger of the Radar lenses, the Range, immediately after my surgery. They block about as close to all the wind as I think anything short of a goggle could. Lately I have swtiched to the Path, the smaller lens. It is absolutely adequate. I didn’t want anything blowing into my eyes immediately after the surgery. I’m less concerned about it now that I have 2 weeks of healing.
We’ve been riding through some dusty conditions too as this photo shows you: There is also a new edition of the Radar as of today I think:
Wow, that’s a dust devil there, is that Mario disappearing upfront? I am looking at the Path too, thanks for confirming the coverage. What colour frame does Sarah have there? I am torn between the White Chrome and the Plasma myself. I’m not too keen on the Livestrong edition although I am sure they will sell out really fast.
