I am apartment hunting and will be needing a dog to help me make my new home all homey. Like a true Tibbs I couldn’t reset looking at dogs while looking at apartments. I found Bear…
Its not that they are super hyper, its that they are super smart. If you ever see these dogs work on a farm you will be amazed. These dogs need a lot attention bc they are smart and get bored. Once they get bored they start getting into trouble. They will learn tricks amazingly well. They need lots of attention and they like to work.
The one thing to be very careful of is there natural tendency to herd. They will try to heard things like cars, thus getting run over.
If you like border collies but want something less hyper, check out a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. My wife and I have had one for almost five years. She loved to run around our yard all day long when we had a house, and sits in front of the tv all day now that we’re in an apartment. They’re very adaptable. They have a fantastic personality, great with kids, other dogs, strangers, etc. The only problem with the breed is that they jump up to greet you, I love it (bad day, I come home and the dog jumps up to say hi, I immediately feel better :)), but some people don’t like dogs jumping on them. The breed is usually 30-40 lbs, small enough for a small apartment but big enough to run a couple miles at a reasonable pace. They have hair, not fur, so they don’t shed and are hypoallergenic (sp?), but you do have to get them trimmed every few months. I’ll post some pictures when I get some time later today.
IMHO the perfect breed, if you don’t want a huge dog (lab, etc).
