House passes bill taxing AIG, other bonuses

You must be kidding me. This is becoming quite pathetic!

I am glad to be on the other side of the border…

Fred.

Awesome! We now have proof both sides are stupid and we will keep in their seats next election. Americans are smarter!

They probably are. The question is smarter than what?

Fred.

I wonder whose bonus will be next.

Hopefully not mine. No reason to suspect they won’t come for it though…after all, what’s to stop them?

This is pretty stupid, from left to right, top to bottom, beginning to end.

If you get your bonus by working toward the success of your company, then your bonus is safe. If your company got any bailout money, don’t count on it.

You really think that none of the AIG employees were “working towards the success of their company”? You equate bailout money with employees that didn’t work towards that success?

Good God. The fact that you even *think *such a thing is sad… but it still misses the point. If our government can take away a bonus paid to one citizen, it can take away them all…and as I said, there’s nothing to stop them…not the Constitution, and certainly not conscience.

.

Absolutely! This is a very slipperly slope.

Reminds me of why a bunch of Yankee’s dumped tea into the Boston Harbour.

There is a 100% guarantee this will die in the Senate.

Maybe. But this is really ridiculous.
Fred.

Feigned indignation, but moreso just another distraction (this week's Limbaugh). 1/10 of 1% of the 170 billion that AIG got so far, and much less when you start adding up the spending so far in this admin. while today we got:

Make that $1 trillion more
“With new estimates due Friday from the Congressional Budget Office, the White House is being warned to expect a grim set of deficit projections, adding well over $1 trillion on top of the red ink already conceded in President Barack Obama’s 10-year spending plan.”

and news that soon Geithner will be ready to put out his huge new plan for girding the financial system. The spending commitments are beyond comprehension, and GROWING!

It’s all a funny funny non joke.

Do you really think so? I hope you’re right but my guess is that it will fly thru and maybe even get past the Supreme cort.

OTOH if I made 300K and was getting a million dollar bonus, I’d give back 51K of salary

I’d be surprised if the Senate didn’t approve it too. Why wouldn’t they? Centainly not for any constitutional or ethical considerations!

Your guns. Duh! I mean, that’s why you have the 2nd amendment, right?

All I know is that no matter how hard I work, if my company goes 300 billion in the red, I don’t get a bonus.

FWIW, I have mixed feelings on this. I don’t like the abuse of government powers…but I also don’t like the abuse of coporate execs. I’m sorry…its a performance bonus. If the company is failing, you don’t get a government loan, only to hand it out millions at a time to your chronies.

All this after only a couple of years after (North Western?) cut wages by 10% across the board to get their airline back in the black. Once they did, do you think they paid the attendants, pilots, and mechanics their back pay? Fuck no. They gave out mulitmillion dollar bonuses to upper management.

LOL.

They can have my bonus when they pry it from my wife’s cold, dead, fingers!

Only if she promises to say, “Get your hands off me you damn dirty ape!”

And why a bunch of Southern States no longer wanted to be a part of the Union.
