For those of you who have done HHH, have you stayed with a host family? What are the norms in terms of paying them? etc? This is my first time doing the race and the folks hosting me have never hosted anyone before, so I want to leave a good impression. If this was back on the East Coast, I’d just give them $$$ but not sure if that would be proper down South. All thoughts welcome.
The host family should provide that information up front. I am staying at the same home I did last year, and the owner charges $35 for the night, plus an extra $5 for dinner/bkfst. You also might want to make sure you understand where and on what you’ll be sleeping; so you know if you need to bring your own air mattress, pillow, sleeping bag, whatever. Arrangements can be anything from sleeping on air mattress in living room to having your own bedroom.
