I’m sure all the close ones are sold out, but does anyone know the area well enough to recommend one thats not too far of a drive. I want to come in on Sat night, spectate on Sun and stay to register on Monday morning.

They may *not *be sold out entirely. As of this morning, there were some rooms available at the University Inn. You do need to book through the Convention Services Manager at the Convention and Visitors Bureau because the Ironman organization has blocked out rooms in the region specifically for resale to Ironman competitors and spectators.

There is always urban camping. I’ve done it two years, both years I ended up staying with the friend I came to watch on Sun night. Seems after the race they don’t really care who their roommates are.

Sun Prairie isn’t too far – NE of the venue; about 20 min drive to race site
Middleton – West of the venue; about 15 min to race site --a lot of Hotel options
Fitchburg – South of venue; about 15 min to race site

Check hotels.com, I just booked a room yesterday. There are quite a few available on East Washington near the mall. I am staying at La Quinta as I did in 2005. Nice place, relatively new, pool for the kids etc. The Comfort Inn is cheaper. Both about a 10-15 minte drive to Monona Terrace. No football game in town for the weekend so more rooms available.
