I’m flying in on the 23rd of July to watch the final stage of the Tour on the 24th. Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice hotel (US $150-200) close to the finishing circuit? Frommers recommends Hotel Burgundy, anyone stay there?
Also, I need a recommendation for a hotel in Chamonix and a recommendation for a nice beach town on the Riviera.

Decent rooms and depending on which side you are on, you can sit on your balcony looking at Mont Blanc and fall asleep listening to the water rush by.
Paris–With the excellent Metro system, you don’t need to be stuck on the Champs. I personally love staying in St. Germaine (6th arr.) We’ve also stayed over near the Tour Eiffel.

I was at the Tour last year-- and stayed at the Holiday Inn in the Place de la Republique— right next to Metro-- easy in and out— Make sure you get to the Champs early— no later than 10:am if you want to be next to the fence— the riders won’t come through until around 4 so be prepared to wait ---- but it is well worth it.
Downtown Paris is almost a full circle, not a big one at that.
As long as you stay somewhere downtown and near subway (which is everywhere), you’ll be fine.
Champs-Elysees metro station is on line 1, but all the stations around it are only few minutes on foot, so you can pretty much stay anywhere in the circle and be less than 20 minutes away from the finish.
Oh, and if you are staying in Paris for few days, get a regular metro weekly pass, it’s the cheapest way to get around (you’ll need passport size picture for it)
Also, if you are planning on visiting museums you can get a 3/5/7 day museum pass that is not very expensive and it allows you to jump the museum lines (can get very long in the summer).
