Hotel & Pool Recomendation in Suburban Boston

My wife, Michelle will be in the Boston area for business at the Leighy Clinic in Burlington for four days soon. She's looking for a hotel with a good pool and health club or a good pool with a hotel nearby and good place to run somewhere in the area. She doesn't want to be in downtown Boston. Anyone have any good suggestions? She's a wonderful woman and will appreciate your help.

Thanks, Jim Sweeney

you said not downtown boston, but if she reconsiders, the ritz (the new one, not the old one) gets free access to the LA sports Club, the best gym in the northeast with a fantastic pool. its also close to the esplanade and the trails around the Charles, the best running in the city.

I stayed at the Double Tree, Back Bay I believe. It had private elevator access to a YMCA. You just used your room key to activiate the elevator and get access to the YMCA. However, the pool had a mandatory swim cap requirement. I never use a cap. When I jumped in, everyone freaked out. The lifeguard let me borrow a cap for the rest of my stay so that I could get my laps in.

Run up and down the river with a thousand other runners, Its few blocks away.

I know you said you were going to Boston and didn’t want to stay downtown, but have you ever tried to get anywhere in that town? You need to stay as close as you possiblly can to where ever you or your wife plan to do business. Cab rides are super expensive and forget about even trying to get anywhere in a car.

I work in an office park across from the Burlington Mall, and often do my runs from there. Depending on how far she wants to go, I can probably suggest some options. Not really the most scenic area, but not all that bad either.

For swimming, there’s the Lexington Club, which is part of the Boston Sports Club chain. Not sure what their guest fees are, but it’s a pretty nice pool and club. It’s just one exit south on Rt. 128/ I-95. There is also a YMCA slightly north in Woburn that has a pool.

Hope this helps!

Adam

Jim,

If you wife will have a car, I would suggest getting out of Burlington. The roads around the hotels there are pretty busy. How about the Marriott in Newton. It is at the intersection of Rtes 30 and 128. It is very easy to get pretty much anywhere from there as the Mass Pike will take you to downtown or the airport in short time:

It is about 10-15 minutes from Burlington on a major highway and if she runs about 1.5 miles inbound she can run the Heartbreak Hill section of the Boston Marathon (not bad if you haven’t already run 20 miles…) and has a pool/health club.
