I looked up the new Sheraton. its 8 miles to town, but It may fit your needs. They do offer a couple of good packages for 5 night or more stays which would bring the cost down. They say they have a shuttle to town, but I wouldn’t rely on it running on race day.

what about Royal Kona? I stayed there twice, one mile away, definitly a resort, expensive but compare to the rooms at IMLP, not THAT expensive…

Thats where I stayed. Lousy hotel, lousy food, lousy service…and they don’t put any booze in the mixed drinks.
