Due to a rainy month my brake pads are almost gone. What is the best around? I’m replacing stock SRAM Red pads. I only use wheels with aluminum brake tracks, Zipp CSC’s and 404’s, and a Renn. I haven’t had any complaints with the stock pads. How about some Kool Stop, Swiss Stop or something?

KoolStop Salmon
/end of thread.
Are Shimano and SRAM interchangeable?
Just don’t stop!
Are Shimano and SRAM interchangeable?
I believe they are…I know that Jagwire states that the pads are interchangeable…
You might want to get a second confirmation. If they aren’t, you can always replace the holders as well.
Yes. I used Kool Stop salmon this weekend in wet weather and they worked great. Noticable difference from the black compound pads. Don’t forget about Swiss Stop yellow…used those for CX. Yikes…not as good as disc brakes, but really helped on cantis!
Seconding KoolStop salmons. In addition to those I’ve used Shimano and KoolStop black and the salmons have the best grip by far (especially when things get wet).
Another vote for Kool Stop salmon pads. I like them so much I use them year round on road and tri bikes.
Ok… modification to the original question: Given a metal brake surface and dry conditions… Kool Stop or Swiss Stop? And which color?
the koolstop salmons are good for wet weather, but they are quite hard compound and will wear out rims faster than their regular dura-type dry weather pads, so it’s good to restrict the salmons to wet/winter conditions if you can.
