Thinking about getting a 2009 Honda CR-V. For those who have one of the newer models, are you able to fit a road bike (w/out the front wheel) standing up if you roll the rear seats forward? Any pics would be really helpful. Thanks!
I don’t know about tin the newer version but we definitely can in our 2004 CRV.
We just got one, and I don’t think I could do that with my bike. We used to be able to do that with a 1st gen CR-V. The rear seats fold differently than that generation in that you have two parts folded forward now. What I’ve thought about doing for longer trips with the bikes is just unbolting the rear seats and removing them completely. In which case, the bikes would definitely fit (might have to lower the saddle on a bigger bike).
I have the 2009. There is no way I could do it with my tri bike. The seats just sort fold foward…and sit up pretty high. I can get my bike in there but I lay it down
not sure how diff the 2009 is, but my g/f has the 2008 model and we have been able to get three bikes in there without the front wheels along with a person in the one back seat…
we may have had to take off a seatpost on one bike, but if you tilt them from them iddle out you can get two in there.
Did you have to angle the bikes in or did they fit straight back? Also, what size were the bikes? I’m hoping my 56cm will fit. Thanks.
Just a suggestion, but take your bike down to the dealership and try fitting it in the back without the wheel. That should resolve any question as to whether you can or cannot. Maybe you can even talk the dealership in to buying you a bike with the car! ![]()
one would be almost striaght up, the other angled more, with three they were all striaght up but the seatposts either taken out or dropped down.
Get an Element. I absolutely love mine. All of my bikes fit perfectly including the tandem that I ride with my daughter.
I have a 2008 CR-V and have fit my size 52 Trek in there wheels and all.
The thing with the seats is that they not only fold down, but also fold up. Imagine folding the seat down first, then hold the seat on the end closest to the rear and pull that up so it’s flush against the driver’s seat. Here’s is a link to a picture of it.

With all the rear seats folded up, you could probably pack 3-4 bikes in there.
I just went trhough this as well. CRV and my tri bike were a no go. I was disappointed. I saved 5K on purchase price and doubled my gas mileage over the CRV by buying a civic. I can fold down the back seat and get my bike in there. Front wheel goes behind the passenger seat. No problemo. Did it for years with my old civic too.
The Element’s definitely on my list. I’ve heard that the interior is noisy, especially at highway speeds. What are your thoughts on the matter? Thanks.
It’s certainly louder than an average car but not annoyingly so. I figure that’s what my iPod and the stereo are for.
I’ve got a 2008 model that has worked fantastic. I can get two road bikes (55 cm) with the front wheel off, standing straight up at an angle across the back in with no problem. This is with the right side seat folded completely up (this includes the middle arm rest section). My son can still ride comfortably in the left side seat. I can get my tri bike in the same way by itself and the front handle bars turned to the side.
