Honchar out of Tour on Suspision (News link)

Another guy who has been banned from the Tour this year. A lot of thoughts here, off the top of my head, one has to ponder a seemingly distinct lack of due-process here… among other things.

Due process? C’mon Tom, those words and “cycling” rarely collide in the same sentence. Heck, Equipe knew about Floyd’s positive test before he did! Due Process, schmoo posses…

Wait until the Jesus Manzano spewed Valverde pooh hits the fan…

what would be the due-process, and how do you know he didn’t get it?

You’re right, that’s what bothers me. Among other things.

Don’t know why but this kind of cracks me up:

“His doping offences were so long ago, and he has changed since then. In our kind of work, I believe its even useful to have Rolf around given his knowledge and experience,” added Stapleton.

Sort of like the huge % of inmates who “go straight” after getting our of prison…

Well, in the Honchar case, though, it is very different. He submitted to a team doping control and they noticed abnomalities. This is a good thing to me as the teams are policing themsleves. He has been and will be held out of races until it clears up. In this case, the process was fair and in accordance with his contract.

I think, in the end, Bob Stapleton will be a great thing for cycling. Now, let’s hope Vaughters and the Argyle Warriors get a Pro TOur slot someday.
