Homestay in or around the UK in August

I’m entered in the UK Half Ironman August 22nd and am hoping to be able to make this trip a reality. In order to do so I’ll need a homestay for parts of the trip - since I can’t afford hotel stays for two weeks.

I’ve got the race weekend accomodations covered, but was hoping to do some more training/visiting/sightseeing in and around the UK, Ireland, Scotland or anywhere near that area.

My travel dates will most likely be:
Arrive: Tue August 17th
Depart: Tue August 31st

If anyone out there is willing to host a 26yr old triathlete for a few days please let me know. I’ll do my best to make sure you are taken care of :slight_smile:

Brian, it’s a pity you have the race accomodation sorted, I live 40 mins from Sherborne and could have put you up then and as I am racing could have shared transport! Never mind send me a address or cell number and we will meet up pre or post race.

I’m doing this race as well. First real travel race. Anyone else in ST-land doing this race?

I can definitely “cancel” my race accomodation if you wouldn’t mind putting me up for a few days that would be great.

Its not a sure thing that I’m coming yet - need to get my boss’ approval and also figure out how much I can afford since I may be quitting my current tech job and moving to a lower stress blue collar job.

How hard is it to get from LHR to Sherborne with a bike case and all my racing gear? Is it expensive?

I am not sure how hard it wouldbe to get to Sherborne direct from Heathrow, Sherborne is a small village. I live in Bournemouth which you could get to by coach but would need to confirm that they would guarnentee to get your bike on, otherwise a tube trip to Waterloo and a train to Bournemouth would do it. Do not take a taxi into London to get to Waterloo you could get badly fleeced but it would be preicey any way.

Would you be looking to race first before sight seeing? I have leave for the Friday and so could get you there for registration, briefing and racking etc if you wish. I am on the coast so if the weather plays ball… However, it’s not very lively nightlife.

im going too and have totally slacked in getting accomodations. anybody know any hotels B&Bs that may still have openings?
