Home-made swim gear

so i know the holy grail on this site would be something like home-made s-bend carbon aerobars with no-rise armrests (made of carbon) etc etc., but:

i’ve been thinking about making my own pair of zoomers this winter. i don’t really have any stores around where i could buy them, and anyway i’m a poor student. so: can i just take my cheap old scuba fins and cut them down?

It might be close to the blue zoomers but I doubt it. Zoomers are very stiff. Your scuba flippers are very flexible. Almost negates the point of zoomers helping stretch your ankles. The flexiblity will not force your feet in the right position like zoomer would. Still it would probably be better then nothing, but not even half as productive productive as zoomers. Buy them online. And do you even need Zoomers?

well, i guess i figured that once the scuba flippers were trimmed down, they’d be stiffer.

as for whether i need them: probably.

That should be fine, just get cheap fins and cut them down if you like. We do it here for the swim team, and it is way cheaper and the result is the same as a zoomer. Once the fins are cut down they are stiffer like you think they would be.

CLASSIFIED SECTION PLEASE!

Ok, I’m only kidding.

Something is better than nothing. Try it!

what size are you? I have some zoomers that I never use (I hate zoomers…and swimming in general) lying around somewhere, I think.

If they fit, i’ll send them along.

sadly, i’m something like 11.5 - there’s nothing that looks pretty in that size.

thanks for that JM! i’m definitely going to give it a try, at least, and since i never (ever) use my snorkel fins anymore, there’s really nothing to lose.

cheers,
-mike

You could try some Laguna Fins. Check them on my site:
