Holy Steve Bauer

For those of you with any canadian cycling knowledge
Steve Bauer, a popular face in the tour de france know as ‘Le Canadien’, 1984 summer olympics in LA winning silver,
Wearing the yellow jersey 4 times in the tour de france and finishing 4th overall in 1988, and riding on team motorola, Steve raced last tuesday in Lachine, Qc (a sub-urb of montreal) in a bike series called “Les Mardis Cyclistes” which is a ten stage criterium race, placed 6th in the Pro-Division. http://www.fqsc.net/05/Comp/route/resultats/RP-Lachine2005-10.pdf
His results can be found on the 3rd page.

Remember that weird angled bikehe had built ?

I liked Bauer - good to see him back.

Don’t have to be Canadian to remember Steve, I raced with him many times in the early to mid 80’s here in SO. CA., and I watched him at the 84 olympics here in Mission Viejo…I think he got the silver that year, but don’t trust my memory anymore…Great guy, and very tough competitor. Glad to hear he is still at it, mixing it up with the next generation…

It was something like a ridiculous 60-degree seat tube angle. I remember the photos…

Silver in LA in 84 Turns pro with La Vie Claire and wins bronze at world pro champs. Then domestiques for Hinault and Lemond during the 85 TdF comes in 10th in GC and the White Jersey!

There’s an old NFB video about Steve…Steve Bauer “Inside and Out” which is pretty cool. It’s kind of out dated but has some pretty good coverage for its time. I found an old copy on Amazon. I think Canadians can rent it or buy it from the NFB.

I don’t think he’s fully back, I think he did it just to see how it was to race again
.

well he didn’t race AG

runs and hides
.

He only raced one of those races, I think he might of been friends with the race organiser or something because he has no other results in the previous races in the series. Or maybe you can get a day liscence as an ELITE racer for the day, or maybe he just laid down his credentials, who knows!!! ^^

By the looks of it he’s started up a bike tour company…

When I retired in the Fall of 1996 from my professional cycling career, I knew that biking would remain a lifelong passion and would always play a big role in my life.

So, in the Spring of 1997 my wife Annick and I started Steve Bauer Bike Tours, to guide visitors of every ability through the beautiful Niagara Wine Region, close to our home, where I grew up and trained as a teenager. As our company color we chose the distinctive yellow of the Tour de France leader’s jersey, which I had the honor and thrill to wear at different occasions.
