After a hugely ****ed up year (furniture breaking on me taking my knee out in May and a severe case of pneumonia in September) I raced an indoor triathlon today.
Took me 24 minutes to swim 350 yards, ride 3 miles on a spin bike and run 1.5 miles around a track and I felt like death the entire time but damn it’s good to be back up and running again.
Yeah yeah, no substance at all, but I just needed to share my excitement.
Next race in the series was today, 550y swim, 4 mile spin bike, 2 mile run.
8:45 7:00 13:20, so nice to be back at it, I can’t wait for the spring races.
Swimming is still really hard, my arms and shoulders are fine, but my lungs are still giving out pretty easily. I can’t go hard, but I finish feeling fresh at least.
I’m just doing my same old breath to the right pattern I’ve always done, my lungs just took a hit. I have the same problem running at my max, my lungs feel fine and then suddenly I’m panting and my chest is burning and I have to stop, but I can stay barely under that pace just fine.
It’s just hitting me harder on the swim for whatever reason, so it’s making training a bit tougher. I don’t know really though, I could have a bad breathing pattern.
And I’m planning on the Cache valley super sprint, Utah Half, Mesquite Tri-state marathon, and I’d like to do one of the Bear Lake halfs. I took the run really easy at St. George last year after my bike issues, so I’ve been really tempted to sign up for that one again too so I can see what I can really do.
I’ll probably do all the SDRC races as well, I missed them all last year and really love doing those little races.
