As you might remember I had surgery on my left knee in January for a torn maniscus and a torn pettella tendon. The recovery has been very good. The swelling is mostly down. Pain is mostly gone. But since I injured the left knee, my right one has been getting more and more sore. Sore enough that when I went back to the doc for the left knee last week he gave the right one a good exam and scheduled an MRI. Sure enough, I have a torn maniscus on that one also. More surgery to come. I'll have to talk to him tomorrow, find out if running can do any more damage. I hope to get in a few short races this year. Hope to hold off on surgery until january (I work outside, if I'm sitting home, I want it to be in january). I turn 55 in two weeks. I've been running for 26 years. I sure hope I can get another 26 years out of these knees.
dude…join the club…
torn medial meniscus , right knee 12/03…surgery…
torn medial mensicus, left knee 3/04…surgery…
Bad genes ( Dad has had eac knee scoped twice) +bad anatomy/build (flat feet, + bow legged+ 185 lbs+15 years of running/multisport , not to mention 15-20 years of basketball on that hardwood court) = Lots 'O stress on those old menisci !
I think there should be a separate division for surgically repaired triathletes!
I think the surgically repaired division would be too crowded! I'm relieved to hear the bad news. At least this can be fixed, I thought it was arthritis, then I would have been in trouble. So now I'll just have to take it easy on it until I get it repaired.
My history is 25 years of running along with 35 years of heavy construction. Five years to go at work and I hope as long as I can with running. Right now I have to go, I want to get in a short run before work!
