i’m not sure how to attack Tupper Lake given that it’s three weeks out from my A race, IMLP.
How much is too much, should i let guys pass me to save myself or is it possible to really race both. Any tips for keeping the competitive edge in check?

Bust your ass. It’s your last big speed workout before LP, and then when it is over - taper time!
FUCK NO!!!
Sorry for swearing and shouting. If you enter a race, you race hard. At three weeks out, there is bags of time to recover. The only difference between an A and B race is taper length…that’s it. If you dog it in your B race, you’ll end developing the lame mental profile of the “RACE DAY CHOKER” who is studly in training, but can’t elevate his game for A races when things get hard and miserable.
Race hard, then right after the race, you have to become a Nazi about recovery. After a short meal, 20 min recovery spin, then stretch and dive in the Lake and stand around/swim for ~20 min. Then on the drive home, you need to get a large ice pack from the local 7-11 and drive the entire 2 hours to Montreal with this on your quads. When you get home, another 15 min spin and more icing. Then no running or long training for 2 days!
I think I will lose it if one more person on this forum asks if they should hold back in racing…why the hell do you guys race…just to blow your $$$$$$ ??? If you really are not going to race then save your $$$$$$$$$ and go out for a training day! It is much cheaper!

Who’s going??
I am… staying in Lake Placid and will swim Mirror Lake on Sunday morning…
I agree with Dev- 3 weeks should be enough time to recover if done properly.
I totally agree with Dev. This is your final key workout before tapering, which means you must destroy yourself. The body grows stronger by repairing itself during rest. If you don’t damage it with intense effort, there’s nothing to repair and no beneficial super compensation when you rest.
lol! good good. i’ll be racing this one “viciously” then.
Thanks
Scott
If you are in the M 55-59 group I think you hold back, maybe even get off your bike at the turn around point and help hand out water to the riders for a while to rest your legs

MTLrunner is the complete 22 year old studly package (OK he needs work on the swim)…but based on his studly riding at Epicman, there is no reason why he can’t bounce back in a few days from an intense effort at Tupper Lake. At that age, he should be racing Tupper Lake hard, hitting the bar that evening, downing a ton of beer, chasing skirts, scoring big, getting laid all nite (or if not, he should be in a good old fashioned bar fight by 1 am), and then getting up at 6 am the next morning with 2 hours of sleep and a wicked hangover and putting the boots to lame old 40-44 posers like me on a 180K ride :-). OK, that might be a bit much, to ask, however, chop off the Sunday 180K ride, and he should be able to pull off the rest…whether he scores or ends up in a fight is the only question here…but racing Tupper hard is the only outcome that should be unchanged from the above scenario!
