Hoka Clayton 2: Sizing and Recommendations

I’m a lover of my Kinvara’s, but after dealing with a hip injury and not running this past year, I’m looking to start jogging again. Since squishy shoes make my hip feel better in normal life (Oofas, ftw!), I want to translate that over to running. So, despite loving my Kinvara’s, I’m about to take a dive into Hoka’s.

How does the sizing run for Hoka’s? True to size? Slightly larger/smaller?

I’m considering the Clayton 2 - seems like a good middle ground option. Anyone have experience with these?

Hoka usually run 1/2 to 1 full size large depending on the model. I am not familiar with the Clayton, but I usually start at 1/2 size lower. You may also want to consider the Mizuno Wave Sky Waveknit or the Salming Greyhound as they are quite cushioned as well. The Mizuno would be a higher drop shoe, but the Salming is in the same 4 degree ballpark as the Kinvara. I do like the Greyhounds a ton and train in them often, as I’m an ambassador. If you want to try them, let me know.

Clayton 2’s aren’t made anymore, altough you can still find some online and in the Ironman Webstore. I now use the Hoka Mach… A bit less “dynamic” than the Clayton 2, but this shoe helped fix many problems with my feet/ankles/hips…

I use Claytons and Cliftons for training all the time and I definitely recommend Clifton 1 or 2 for you. Clayton is hard compared to Clifton. They are true to size as far as I’m concerned. I had a chance to take a look at new Rincon and they were so light with a lot fo cushions. You might want to try them as well. Clifton 2 are out of production, but you can still find them if you are not looking for specific color. Good luck!!

I’ve run in Kinvaras and Claytons (1 and 2). I found them to be very similar in size. Claytons might run 1/4 size larger, or maybe it’s just a smidge wider. As others have said, they’re not in production, and there’s not an obvious successor to the Clayton from Hoka. Despite what another poster said, I found the Clayton to be better-cushioned than the Cliftons, maybe because the Clayton’s rocker smooths the ride out. Cliftons felt a little clunky to me. YMMV.
