Just wondering how many of you have more than just Triathlon for a hobby. I’m to the point that I have to give up a few I think. I currently do Tris I like the Ironman distance the most so very time consuming, Water ski, wake board, knee board, Hunt,Fish,Mountain bike, Archery, started this ridiculous sport of wind surfing, race snowmobiles all winter which takes up way more time than Ironman training. And getting my two kids into racing go karts. All this with a wife (very understanding and supportive) and two kids 50-60 hours a week work, I guess thats why I haven’t visited this site in six months. Maybe sleeping has to go!!! Peoples passions and hobbies have always interested me so just wondering.
I study Aikido. In fact, I am leaving for IMLou on Wednesday instead of Tuesday because I have a grading Tuesday night. I will definitely be jacked up all next week! I also coach high school xc and track so I too, have a very understanding wife.
My other hobbies incl. home theater and hi-end audio. Luckily, rest is the fifth sport
Wow! Thats quite a feat fitting all that into your schedule especially with 2 kids and working full time! Does your wife participate in any of those hobbies?
I’m single dude and between work and triathlon I think I’m pretty much good to go. I do enjoy reading a lot (books, magazines, comic books etc) and I like to play the occasional video game especially during the winter months. I’m thinking about taking up indoor climbing which looks kinda fun.
used to play beach volleyball and do a lot more fishing, once we moved to Raleigh NC and I was landlocked, tri took over as the only real hobby, with a wife, 2 kids and 50-60 hours a week of work including travel, outside of tri most of the available time is spent with the family which is a blast, especially when I am high on endorphins from my morning training session!!!
Lets see…
Past hobbies as I was competing in tris and raising 2 kids (ALL these were at the same time)
National Ski Patrol (well OK I was paid to do this on my days off as Chief of Police)
Dive Rescue Team
Dive Master
Volunteer Fireman (pumper truck operator, I ain’t running into a burning building, thank you)
Golf (12 handicapp)
Tennis
Currently as I do Tris and running my own business but the kids are gone:
Golf (2 times each week, 8 handicapp)
Poker Tournaments (3-4 times each week)
Race once each month and train nearly everyday
I’m wondering why you just didn’t say “skiing, scuba diving, and golf.” And, since you didn’t say “poker champoin,” I’m guessing you’re not very good at cards.
Actually I’m very good at poker. I’ve won more then my share of tourneys, thank you. Actually made the final table yesterday and doubled my buy in.
Actually there’s alot of difference between just scuba diving and rescue diving. When was the last time you searched for and found a leg on the bottom of a dark lake, been there done that. Or searched in a fast moving river for a body you can’t see until you swim into it…yep.
My wife is a A class racket ball player so she spends alot of time with that.

Poker is one thing that I will never be good at when I have a good hand my smile is from ear to ear no way to control it. And I agree with your scuba diving experience, the last time I did a dive was in a river went down came up 20 minutes later and couldnt see the boat I was 600 yards away scared the ____ out of me never did another dive.
I think you’re confused, nobody asked.
I would just put “fishing” without mentioning that I win a lot of tournaments. “Duck hunting” without mentioning that guides ask me to take their extra trips. You took the question as an opportunity to brag (again, this is not the first time you’ve listed these "hobbies’). Would you put you handicap if it were 20 instead of 8? I think not. I save a life almost every day I go to work – I don’t list it as a hobby. You probably are special, but not as special as you think.
man yer hardcore
thats a lot of difference!
let me count the differences:
higher likelyhood of encountering dead peoples
whoa
=)
