That is going to end up costing me more than the price of a new conti comp, right?

If the nail went through the sidewall of the rim…I think it might be toast. Just on the top of the rim and it might still be workable. Hope it didn’t happen during a downhill.

That’s intense.
Maybe contact HED and see what they think.

Did not go all the way through, but did did dent the sidewall…so far looks like just on the aluminum part.

They are 650’s and I will be in the market for a new bike before too long. I guess me trying to stick with 650’s since I have race wheels that size might not be as big of a deal…

The concern with aluminum is crack propagation. Given that this is under the tire, it would be hard to regularly check it if you continued riding it.

HED might be able to bond on a new rim is the carbon is OK. That being said, you can probably pick up another 650c H3 on eBay for less (low demand for 650c means prices are lower).

as long as the sidewall dent can be tapped back into place there should be no issue there…and a skilled tig welder should be able to fill in that hole without harming the bond at all.

I have a bike friend talking to HED right now - we’ll see what they say.

Maybe I just need a whole new bike and 700 wheels.

Use any excuse for a new bike.
You can always add your pink flair to it!!
Best of Luck on the wheel issue.

Wow, never seen anything like that before!!

Nice manicure. you need to work on the toenails a little.

I don’t think the hole in the rim bed is a reason for concern! There are lots of alloy rims out there that have 37 such holes in them (36 for the spoke nipples + one for the valve stem

The metal of the hole’s edge is bent inwards, so there is no risk it could puncture your tire. There is no need to fill / repair that hole.

The outward dent on the brake surface looks small. If it doesn’t affect brake performance, I would leave it as is!

If it does, I would be reluctant to tap that dent flat, as you have to be very careful not to hit / crack the carbon instead, or cause the carbon to separate from the rim.

If the dent is really small, you may simply sand it flush.

Ya…I tend not to do anything in an understated way…

I thought the nail through the tire was enough, but I did not check the rim until a week later (got the nail during a race and changed to a spare…didn’t even see the nail until I got home and looked at the tire)…

As for the toenails…what can I say. I’m doing good to have at least half of them at any given time.
