Hip flexors sore on tri bike vs. road bike

Assistance/advice sought please.

I do 95% of my riding on a 73 degree road bike. I have a P2K that is rarely ridden, usually just a few times in the weeks before a race.

I just returned from such a ride. My hip flexors get sore/tired rather quickly compared to my road bike. Riding on flat terrain is not problematic, but the second I start to uphill the hip flexors start to hurt. The seat heights are nearly the same as measured from the bottom bracket, the tri bike is about .25 inches lower. It feels right. The road bike is definitely in the right spot, I am very strong on it and all of my muscles tend to get sore at about the same time.

The P2K is ridden all the way forward. Is it simply the hip angle that is more acute on the tri bike? Even though they should be the same on both bikes, they are not. If so, what would help, raising the front end? Ech. Riding the bike more? A saddle adjustment?

Thanks.

Weak abductors. Narrow hips?

Drastically different set ups are going to recruit muscles much differently so it’s no doubt things are a bit sore when switching over to your rarely used tri bike and riding hard.
I’d try to use the tri bike more in training.
