What’s the deal with this?
Yeah, it’s kinda gross. Hincappie is known for having some crazy varicose veins. I remember seeing a picture on Graham Watson’s page and the caption was something to the effect of “Nobody has varicose veins like George!”.
I don’t think it’s really slowing him down…
Seems sort of tasteless on Cervelo’s part.???
nice wheelset!
My girlfriend had the same thing. It’s not a varicose vein. She said the vein is dead. When you can see this vein, it’s warmer to the touch than the rest of the leg. Pretty freaky. I still love her though. Even though she’s not on Discovery.

Nah. I think they would’ve taken the pic had he been a CSC rider. Just because I think the veins are a tad gross doesn’t mean George does- it shows his cycling cojones!
Yikes! I would be afraid with shaving my legs for fear of nicking that bad boy (appears to be a tributary of the saphenous vein). Hopefully he waxes …

Oh dear, I hadn’t thought about that. That’d be gnarly to shave over. If that thing is dead, why not just remove it?
Well,
In my girlfriend’s case, She says another will show up if she gets pregnant. It’s all above my head, but if George gets rid of it, then gets pregnant…
Well then. That’s a whole different thread, now isn’t it?
I have a 1 inch version on the same calf. It’s pretty soft and a razor isn’t an issue. I’ve seen many on the calves of cyclists and wonder if a past pedal trauma isn’t part of the problem. I’ve read that vein trauma can be a cause and every cyclist I’ve seen has it on the left side, and this is where I once wacked my calf. Could be coincedence as well.
