Does anyone have any initial results for the HIM at Shep? Conditions were 42 degrees, winds and lots of smoke from the bushfires. How many finished and how many went down - race report needed.
i dont have any stats on hand but the day was very smoky and hot. At 2pm the temp peaked at 42 degrees C.
Lots of people pulled out, including three of my mates. Too hot, couldnt breathe.
I had a good swim 29:45/ decent bike 2:37 / slow run 1:50 but i finished my first HIM and picked up a slot for Pt Mc in April!!
The atmosphere was great- lots of people with hoses and water to spray on you. It really helped. Lots of people walked sections of the run. I really felt for the older age groups- they were out in the worst of it- up to 7 hrs.
And yes Otter, i am The real radioactiveman!
You have a website? I’m trying to check on an athlete I had in the race.
There is always an up-side. Despite being a hot sunny day the smoke took he edge off the sunburn - a blessing for people with very light skin!
Fortunately quite a few of the locals had their hoses at the ready for a much needed spray of cool water, and ice from the aid stations in the hat, and even n the rear pockets of the race top helped enormously. Still, it was quite clear there are two types of people there, those that can handle the heat, and those that cannot. Fortunately I must be in the former, along with Steve above. I don’t know how many DNF’s there were, but two people I know ended up on IV.
Anyway, I also got my spot for Ironman Australia so will be seeing Mr Radioactive in April!
Yes very little sunburn. The hoses were great. I always figured that skinny guys with very littl ebody fat handled the heat better. I am neither of those things.
I put ice in my cap - ended up with an ice cream headache, and in my suit pockets- it melted and slid down my butt!
race website is- www.sheppartonhalfironman.com
no results yet
Let me be clear here- I was not the guy wearing the cape! But i did have my 2XU “radioactiveman” race suit on.
Great job guys! That’s going to make Port look like a cakewalk!
