HIM Brick Training

A question or two for those of you doing brick training. For HIM distance, during the Build period, 8 weeks before “A” race, what is your typical brick choice and how many a week do you normaly do during the same period leading to the race. If you don’t mind, please post your weekly total hours of training that I can make a correlation. Thanks.

My opinion on the most important run for a HIM is a long run. Progress from 90 min to 2 hours and then focus on race-specific long runs in the weeks leading up to the race (however long you estimate it will take +/- 15 min, with maybe 60 minutes of race pace+ effort). That advice is probably worth what it cost you.

For a typical brick I’d run anywhere from 20-40 min off the bike, more as a gauge for how I felt after the bike and to judge run pacing/nutrition. I’ve reduced my number of bricks from every weekend to 3 or 4 total prior to a HIM and both my bike and run times continue to decrease. Interpretation: bricks aren’t critical to performance, but they do help with perception.

Thank you.
