HIM & 1st IM 2 wks. later

I just read the “marathon & then IM” post. Although I have yet to complete an IM, I have to agree that it’s probably not a good idea (I have never completed a marathon “unscathed”!). That said, I’m curious about completing a HIM & my 1st IM 2 weeks later. Both are relatively “easy” flat courses & I’m not concerned about reaching the podium… just finishing the IM. I’m one of those “middle-of-the-pack dudes”. My thinking is that I would complete the HIM w/moderate effort (not too fast not too slow ) & use the 2 weeks after for tapering. I completed my first HIM last year (a difficult super hilly course) and was back training for a marathon in two days. (I ran yet another marathon after that marathon w/in a two-week period.) What say the ST’ers?

Oh I see a great DNF Report in the making…

Dont “race” the HIM, use it as a training day and you are set.

In particular Itseazy’s reply…I didn’t do the HIM and had an awesome IMLP for my first IM, you put so much into IM training you deserve the best chance at a great result.

My gut highly doubts a DNF. In the highest peak of training (June-August), my weekly long runs are 20 miles & I usu. don’t miss them. I can take a licking & keep on ticking. Like the post after yours, using the HIM as a training run is the idea that I was looking for. THAT, offers perspective & a strategic approach. Thank you “Record10Carbon”.
