Search through the Am Zofingen threads. You’ll find plenty of discussion there about this. In 2008 I ran 13 x 26 in the back and 39 x 53 up front and was fine. This year I’m going with 11 x 25 in the back with a compact crank up front.
A lot depends on how many hills you have in your legs.

I used a 12-27 at IMWI last year and it was just what the doctor ordered… I have done a couple of very hilly rides with an 11-23 and the difference was night and day.
There’s nothing too crazy steep, but the course is relentless. 4 loops is uncharted territory, but at least you don’t have to run when you’re done. If you don’t have a compact, go 12 x 27. See you Sunday!
