My wife is going to race and I plan on taking the weekend to chill out while in Oregon. We are flying in from Maine and its seems like a great opportunity on Friday to do a full day hike. To the Portland locals or to those of you in the know…if you could climb or hike anywhere out there (probably Mt. Hood area I guess) where would you go?
Looking to do a 6 hour hike time-wise.
6 hour hike…that will make you exhausted!!!
Out of all the people out there to respond, what do I get…another Mainer! Come to think of it, 6 hours is a long time, better back it off to a sprint distance hike
My wife and i along with some friends will be hiking Mt St Helens. You’ll need a permit though.
Multnomah Falls to Larch mountain, back to Multnomah Falls. 14 miles, 4k feet climbing, 200 mile view at the top. Did it 3 weeks ago in 6.5 hours, with a lunch break at the top. Bring food and water!

Saddleback Mountain off Hwy 26 on the way to the Oregon Coast about 45-55min from Forest Grove is a good option, really specatular views.
Classic hike up on the Columbia Gorge would be Dog Mountain, again great views…
Caveat: Either one of the hikes will eff up your legs good before the race
I second Saddle Mountain! Its a good one. Just about anything up the Columbia Gorge is good too. There a hundreds of options of any length. One of the most unique hikes isnt that long, but a is lot like via ferratta in Italy. It is Becon Rock on the Washington side of the columbia. Very cool climbing up that spire. The trail is hanging on the side of the cliff with thousands of swithbacks that seriously cross underneath eachother. Very unique. Awesome view on the top too.
I agree, anything in the Gorge is great. Eagle Creek is a good day long hike. However, Saddle Mountain is closer to the race site.
