I got an idea for a couple of workouts from Mark Evans’ book “The Triathlete’s Edge” and from “Going Long.” My wife and I went to a very hilly mountain with carraige roads - parts of the Survival of the Shawangunks course. In one workout we did a 4-hour hike where we hiked for 50-minutes followed by running for 10-minutes. In the other, we did a 4-hour hike where we hiked for 20-minutes followed by 5-minutes of running.
Do you think this a good workout for IM or maybe its not specific enough (hopefully not specific enough because I would like to not walk too much of the marathon this time)?

Running is better because walking uses the leg muscles in a different way, however, it isn’t a bad idea to practice some long walking during your IM training.
