I am considering entering the HFP race American Triple T this May either with a couple of friends (or if they pull the rip cord, solo–scary thought as I sit here in hibernation mode). I have heard mixed reviews on this race and am very intererested in what, if anyone on this formum thinks/knows about this race. IN the past, I’ve competed in a few HFP races and have had a relatively positive opinion of them. I am training for IM Lake Placid and think that this will be a great pre-season/early season test to gauge my fitness for that race.
Race director has a message board at his site. www.hfpracing.com May not be the best place for a totally unbiased response, but you will get an answer from people who have done the race before if you post your question there.
As mentioned on another reply, the water was nasty. Not just your typical over-grown with weeds training pond. The AmTT swim resulted in a permanently stained tri-top, a hearty sinus infection and two cases of what looked like “pink eye” (my two team members). If the murkey water wasn’t enough, the oil taste and odd hot spots made sure I didn’t spend an extra minute in the water.
The bike course is solid, not great. A little challenging on a few descents but otherwise good terrain for racing. The run is on fire roads that climb for about 3 miles, the return trip is basically downhill. x4
The concept for the race is great. Accommodations were excellent. We had three teams entered (!st year of the event). We collectively graded the race a B-.
