I was looking at this race and I am in good 1/2 IM shape. The problem is, the darn website doesn’t seem to have any real info on it.
Any of you guys know what the inside story on this race is? I know Francois said the run is 7 laps of a 3km course that goes through the Formula 1 tunnel. I think that is cool.
Thanks for the info. The fact that the website is just full of links that end with “Coming soon…” and there is basically no content on the site except a big banner that says “Athletes who wish to withdraw from Half Ironman Monaco click here.” is not entirely confidence inspiring.
I just did Austria, and there was some positive buzz about this race from people I met in Austria. Also, I’ve done 2 triangle races and they were both fantastic: IM Austria and the 1/2 IM South Africa (now a full). I did South Africa in its first year, and there were zero first year problems with the race. (Triangle also plays much better music at races than North American races - I’d much rather here Euro-techno than Enya, which they were playing at IMLP or “It’s a Beatiful day” - I don’t know how I could race if that was stuck in my head all day.
They did? Thank god I did not hear it; I must have been underwater. I like U2, but that song is horrible, and if it was stuck in my head all day, I would have gone mad.
Tom, at IM France I was chatting with Mark Allen (ooh, there’s a name drop for you!) who is I guess you could say works as a consultant for Triangle, as well as one of the Triangle partners and at that point the race was definitely on. I’d shoot them an email as suggested above.
Actually, sorry Tom but I just checked the race site and it looks like you may have missed the boat. Registration closed 31 July.
There was a field limit of 1,000 and they’ve got 1,034 names on the confirmed entrants list. Not bad, looks like Triangle could be on a winner after moving IM France to Nice and with Half IM Monaco.
If you’re really keen, I’d send an email anyway, say you’re coming from the US and would love to race. I’m sure they expect more than 34 non-starters, so there’s a fair chance if you get in touch with the right person that you could still get an entry.
Tom, tell them you can have my slot. I had to drop out last week due to injury. Have fun and we expect a full race report with lots of pictures of the females!
