Hey! Slowman. How about a review of some newer Tri saddles?

Specifically the Arrione Tri, the SLR Tri and the new split gel Tri by FSA (I think). And what about the new Specialized sit-bone specific saddles?

Are you referring to the SI T1 when you list the SLR Tri? I have that now, and in ONE ride the cover wore through! It’s now bare “foam” or whatever on both sides of the wide nose where my inner thighs apparenly rub it. Doesn’t much matter to me, but I thought it odd. As for comfy factor, I’m able to get through 90 min trainer sessions with moderate annoyance, which is pretty good for me. I’m very hard to please w/ saddles.

It wore through to the foam or gel or whatever? Yikes!

The only relevant review is what your/mine/the other guy’s butt has to say.

Much too personal to base a purchase upon what somebody may or may not like.

The cover is probably less than .5mm thick, so it’s not a huge accomplishment. But still…

better luck just posting for advice on each saddle. It’s hard to review a saddle and even an experts opinion isn’t much better than any other average user. Read the data from the manufacturer and then ask for opinions. Personally I’m riding a worn through San Marco Azoto Tri-Gel and just got an Aspide Tri-Gel to replace my worn saddle and drop a little weight. I was planning on the Arione Tri or the SLR Tri but couldn’t get them quickly and the Aspide was cheap and I know it works. Only negative I’ve heard from friends with teh arione is that they slid around on it quite a bit.

Thanks. I wonder if there is a market for a 2mm, instead of 5-6mm, saddle cover to prevent the slipping.

Any comments on the Aspide tri? I just had one put on the bike I ordered.

I tried the supposed tri sadde of tri saddles the azoto , and absolutely hated it

I put the c2 or whatever they call the saddle that came on my dual and liked it much better.

it just fits my wide butt better. what can I say?

i’ll be doing arione tri, the new one by profile design, which i think is going to be the pick of the lot, and the tri specific SLR.

When I bought my 2004 Felt S22 the first thing I did was ditch the Stella Italia Tri-matic 2 peice of crap. I repleced it with A SAN MARCO ASPIDE AND I LOOOOVVVEE IT! Man what a great saddle for me. I say for me because I heartily agree that it’s a very individual thing. I just saw the new profile design saddle in the USAT newsletter. My wife is looking to upgrade her saddle so we may look into that one as well.

Cheers, Karma

Yea…but your seat is too high! ;o) Just teasin!!!

Azoto - Very cushy. nice for fat ass’d triathletes or newer folks who new more padding in aero.

Arione tri - Not really an Arione. Very nice saddle though.

Arione - Kick ass saddle for road or tri. Perhaps a bit stiff/narrow up front for tri, but a great saddle

SLR Tri - Very comfy buttwise. The wider nose is a nice platform for the folks who slide forward. Takes a bit getting used to. Some claim it’s too wide up front, but I love it.

Aspide - nice saddle. perhaps my 3rd choice.

1st - SLR tri

2nd - Arione (standard)

3rd - Aspide

I think specialized is onto something with their saddles that come in widths

if my sit bones aren’t supported, it’s no fun.

if the azoto was flatter on the back section so I could get those bones of mine to stay on it , I 'd love it.

in any event, I think it’s a trimatic that i’m using now and liking.
believe it or not.

I haven’t seen the new profile one yet. Are there any special features ?

I’ve ridden the Aspide Tri for a season and like it a lot. There is a new Black Angel Aspide Tri version available now that I want to take a look at too. Had the Azoto, and it didn’t work for me. Too wide in the back.

"I haven’t seen the new profile one yet. Are there any special features?

really started from the ground up as a tri saddle, instead of a saddle modified for tri off a road shell.

long, flat, plush, a taint pocket, not for everyone, but exactly what i like. i’ll have that review up in a week or less.

Would this be the new Profile Design saddle??

For that price, that is really a bargain!

" Would this be the new Profile Design saddle?"

yeah, that’s the one.

I’m currently using the arione (standard) with 2 De Soto seat covers. Love it. Been riding a lot more comfortably ever since. I tried out the Azoto to see what the hype was about. My butt doesn’t believe the hype…

Thanks, everyone.
I’m looking forward to Dan’s reviews. He always has interesting viewpoints even if others don’t agree.
