You know you’re possibly obsessed when you have bikes for every occasion, weather, course format, etc, but 4 just isn’t enough.
Are Zipp or Lotus or any exotic frames still available these days ? Is it possible still to get anything thats a monocoque (aside from a Corima fox) that I can make my next build ? Anything great you can get hold of or have seen ?
Sadly, the super bikes like the Lotus went the way of the dinosaur when the UCI ice age rules came into effect. Although companies like BP are marketing frames like its Stealth…these frames just aren’t on the pinnacle of cycling…on the level of the Lotus…there is no incentive for companies to go that route…The Cat bike is still a fairly relevant frame…but even those are extremely rare, and dated… I just don’t think anyone has the incentive to use the most current materials and methods to rethink a Lotus type design and stick it on the market…
Of course, if you’re independently wealthy and have a spare $75 to $100k or so…you can have some wiz-bang guy build you one…trouble is I think you’d have a hard time selling enough of them to pay for the circa $50k mold…
Here’s a thought, sell on your Giant Composite and get a R2.5 Bayonne whilst you are looking for the 700c equivalent of a Cheetah or some such exotica.
