Hi, Thanks for your input… to make a long story short, I am kind scared on the bike… I have (or should say HAD to be positive) this fear of downhills. I want to feel stable on my bike and I am also fairly light (124lbs) I ride lots of hills here (long and steep) but am training for lake placid. I even called the zipp guy and he recommended 303 all around or 404 in the back/303 in the front. I am actually looking at a set of 404’s clinchers used right now (as of tonight)… strongly considering that so I figure I can always buy better wheels later and that would be a start… Maybe I’ll put my training wheel (velocity sparctatus) in the front… And also, who in the world is going to show me how to glue those on? I need to feel comfortable before the ironman… I really want to do well, and the bike IS my limiter, and I can cut lots of time there…Now, not knowing or being able to practice this will drive me nuts… I haven’t found a boyfriend that can help in that department yet:) That is my concerned about tubulars… I like your advice about my training wheel option, thanks!
I hear you… I got the french tv now with my satellite and can connect with my family and what they keep watching (star academie) not that I watch tv, but when I have 5 minutes, it helps with nostalgia! I am going back to Montreal for easter, I used to go every 6-8 weeks but I am training so hard that I can’t afford not to bike for 3 days… easter week-end I am racing here saturday and then going for 2 days… Do you know of a running group there for my sunday longer run? (I was a swimmer back when I used to live there) thanks
I agree with Francois about Mont Royal. I was running there last Monday and I saw other runners and bikers. I managed to bust my back falling on ice while running downhill, but that is another story…
Francois,
You know, her name sounds familiar… But I don’t know her personnally. Thanks for the tips for mount royal, not sure I feel safe there by myself but I will consider it.
Bump…still looking for you…404 tubulars but going for a song right now

Hey thanks again. But someone on this site e-mailed me and I am actually buying his 2002 404 clincher set… I think that will do for now. If I keep getting better and more serious and learn more about wheels, i can always buy a different set next year. Maybe I am a wimp about the tubulars but honestly, I don’t have anyone here that can show me all that and I sure don’t want to worry during the ironman… I am really impressed that people keep trying to help each other on this site… Very helpful, thank you:)
hey, if you ever decide to take the plung, I found it’s not nearly as intimidating as you might think. It’s also easier than trying to wrestle a tight clincher on with tire levers. On the other hand, I have yet to experience changing a tubular flat. Good luck with the IM.
Thanks. My next set of wheels will be new, and tubulars. But for my first race set, a used discounted 404 clincher makes me pretty happy:)
always fun to get new toys!
