Noted in Slowman’s dealer write up that Larsen is selling Wheelworks and moving to Bend. Will the shop continue to support triathlon? Davis is a nice town and all but Bend is fabulous. Hard to argue with Steve’s choice in venues.
I do not see anywhere that Larsen is selling his shop. I searched, but did not come up with anything about that.
Yes, I do go through the main page and did a search. Just no luck. Link???
Embedded in the total tri review…
Total Tri Sports (March, 03) is the long-awaited tri-specific shop in Sacramento. Yes, there’s Steve Larsen’s Wheelworks, but Davis is not Sacto. Also, as of this writing Steve Larsen has sold his shop and moved to Bend, Oregon, and we’re waiting to see just what that will mean for that shop’s dediction to tri. There are other very good bike shops in Sacto (like City Bike Works just down the street from Total Tri), but they’ve been slow or unwilling to pay much attention to the multisport market. This left an opening and owner Chris Ross has aggressively gone after it.
“Larsen is selling Wheelworks and moving to Bend. Will the shop continue to support triathlon?”
the latest: steve larsen is esconced in bend. he now lives there with his wife. the shop is not sold yet. it has apparently entered the phase of “intent to sell” to myke berna, head wrench.
berna has wrenched at a high level on pro cycling squads, etc., and should he in fact complete the purchase of the shop he’ll continue to run it with the same degree of current emphasis in multisport.
i think one can appreciate that when you’re a pro bike racer and a pro IM-distance triathlete you have limited hours to spend in a bike shop. this has already been the case during steve’s ownership. berna has continued to be there day in / day out. i doubt if any current customer will see much if any difference now, in a week, or in six months, after the sale of the shop to berna, should the sale go through.
