Ironstevie…I’m down here (Boyton/Boca area) from Michigan and I have had some GREAT rides along A1A and some nice long runs but I need to get back in the water…not that I’m a “fish”. I’m not to keen on ocean swimming although it was as flat and calm as it could be yesterday. Any suggestions? I’ll be down here the rest of the week.
The obvious place to go is the Coral Springs Aquatic Center. It has a 50 meter pool and is usually well stocked with lots of beautiful fish. Ride the bike down, swim with the fish, and ride the bike back
This sport can be such a chore sometimes.
There is a nice pool in Delray Beach also, Aqua Crest. The address is 2503 Seacreast Blvd, Delray Beach. Might be closer for you than Coral Springs.
ajfranke, how far away is it from the Boyton/Boca area?
Nothing like living in Boca Raton and training. It’s a triathlete’s utopia. I lived and guarded in Boca Raton for three (3) years. As a matter of fact, Bill Picciano got me started doing triathlons while sitting on the beach one day. I’ve been hooked ever since. Riding and running on A1A was the best. I did a lot of running in soft sand back in those days so I had some pretty nice calves! The only thing about the area is it’s totally flat. Doing “bridge repeats” isn’t going to get you ready for some of the hillier races out there on the circuit. Water around the area is plentiful. You can also use the Boca Raton pool is you’re looking for a place to swim. But, for me, swimming in the ocean is about as good as it gets. Head on down to the first lifeguard tower at the end of Glades Road. Swim north until you hit tower 24 and you’ve swum about 2.5 miles. One word…awesome. Right now I would probably stay out of the water. If memory is correct it’s sea lice season. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. The itching can become unbearable! Trust me…I know. I think I still have some scars from itching too much!
Out,
Bruce
Depending on where you are, it is probably about a 30 minute drive. It is in Western Broward County, right next to the Sawgrass expressway, if that helps. The Del Rey Beach idea would be a lot closer, but I can’t vouch for the pool or the fish there.
Right now I’m down here vacationing and visting my brother-in-law and his new son. He lives in Boyton beach. It’s raining now so I guess I’ll take the kids to the movies and do a run later today, I’m in my recovery week so it works out great. he mentioned the Swimming hall of Fame as a place to try to swim…is this possable and if so where is it?
There was actually a thread on the Swimming Hall of Fame a few weeks ago on this forum. Bottom line: Stay away.
Coral Springs is a great facility, but Boynton Beach is quite a ways north, so you can probably find something closer. If not, $2 gets you into the 50m and 25 yard pools along with the diving platforms and weightroom. Great scenery in Florida too, once you get away from all the gray hairs.
Welcome to the oven! I think it turned hot about last Thursday, so you’re getting the early season fun!.
Agreee 100% on Coral Springs Acquatic. Great place. You want to ride this weekend?
Ironstevie…I’m not sure when we’re heading back north, most likley this Saturday though. If you can swing anything durring the week that would work for me.
