Hey Duffy... (1)

…ever heard of a guy named Taylor Jensen?

I know nothing about surfing, but my son just met him in Taiwan.

First I’ve heard of him.

He’s supposed to be long board world champion. Like I said, I know nothing about surfing. Is it like boxing where different associations give out rivaling “world champion” titles?

Ooooooo, aaaahhhhhh. Longboard World Champion!

I could be LBWC if I decided to not have fun while surfing.

No wonder I’ve never heard of him.

Btw, he’s probably a cool dude and I’m sure he surfs really good. I’m just not into long boarding or comp surfing. So it’s s double whammy of I don’t care.

Funny story, btw. I met a couple of Brazilian guys last Thursday while gearing up to go surf a CenCal reef. Chit chatted a bit giving them a rundown of the break, etc.

Anyway, I walked up to the break (~3/4 mile walk) and met up with a couple friends, both famous pro (short board) surfers (one a multiple x world champ and the other a top 10 tour pro who was famously kicked off the tour).

The Brazilians showed up and were like giddy little girls when I introduced them to these two guys.

It was kinda weird because I’ve known these guys for nearly 30 years and I forget that they are famous v

Btw, he’s probably a cool dude

Sure sounded like it

and I’m sure he surfs really good.

I wouldn’t be able to tell

I’m just not into long boarding or comp surfing. So it’s s double whammy of I don’t care.

Well, I’m not into any kind of surfing, I was just mildly interested in learning if a world champion title actually means something in the surfing world.

Cheers,

Short board WC means something to a relatively small group (like a Kona winner I suppose).

Long board WC is important to probably around 1,000 people world wide.

I pay some attention to pro surfing (mostly through osmosis) and watch WCT contests when they’re in good waves and I’m friends with or acquainted to several pro surfers. I couldn’t name a single pro long boarder.
