Somewhat tongue in cheek. But heres what I’m thinking. I paid my USAT membership. Basically I expect that for that money they will fulfill their promises. By promises I assume they will abide by their bylaws. The bylaws state (amongst other things) that meeting notes will be posted and gives pretty specific deadlines for that posting.
Near as I can tell this hasn’t been done. So how do I get my refund dammit? Or rather than that how about a posting of the meeting minutes.
“Or rather than that how about a posting of the meeting minutes.”
minutes from the first three meetings, which have taken place over the past several weeks, have been forwarded to the webmaster for publication on the site. i’m guardedly optimistic they’ll be published today, and if not, then perhaps tomorrow.
normally this would go through our communications director, bj hoeptner. however, we’ve bypassed her in this case because she’s been in athens for upwards of a month, working for the USOC, and is just returning today.
you’re right to ask the question. the board has never been in the habit of posting minutes on the site. it’s happened in fits and starts, but is now a matter of bylaw. just the same, it’s not been easy getting this organization to change its habits.
there’s a axiom of life. even when everyone knows something needs to be done, its common for no one to do it. as a result, i’ve pretty much operated outside my own technical authority and have just gotten this thing done. as no one has stood in my way, it’s been relatively seamless. we have no sec’ty, and we can’t have one until we elect one in two weeks, at our first in-face meeting. this, as a matter of bylaw as well.
after a sec’ty is elected, and now we have a communications director who’s in-country, and because we’ll now have a hired steno at each meeting, you’ll see the discipline of transparency evident.
check the site tomorrow. if minutes are not up, i’ll be at least as pissed as you are.
