Here's What You Need to Know About the 2026 IRONMAN New Zealand Race

through 45km Hanson was riding 2nd fastest, faster than Blum, Funk, Foley and Svenningson (who is riding slowly 21th, 10mn back) ! Nobody would have expected that. Maybe his new coach (himself) actually knows a bit about his athlete

Still 100 km of riding so highly unlikely that the chasing group will stay together as things usually start to unravell in the last hour of the bike but a run with Blum, Hanson and Le Corre starting together would be nice as the 3 of them are able to run around the 2h30 mark

In the 70.3 world champs the fast pack (Wilde, Geens, Bergere, Smith) rode 1:59.
Smith has just ridden 2:02 for the first 90km. Now for another 90km at similar speed!
@SHT Le Corre has no pedigree for a 2:30 marathon, other than a decent 10km. But both the other two can run sub 2:33. Add Foley to that.

Le corre has a half marathon split to the second of a sub 2.30 runner ( Casper stornes ) at AIX 70.3 last year

Apparently the new Norwegian Method is to let Matt Hanson and Trevor Foley ride away…

LOL! They are showing mile marker 48!

I wonder what they see on their screens?

I’m pretty sure it’s just the same broadcast that we see; that’s normally how it’s done when it’s commentated remote. They may obviously have producers communicating with them to help and direct when to go to break etc.

Ok back from my swim, these folks got me super motivated and I got in 5k!!

Fast forward to Blu dropping his bar, this exact same thing happened to Bjorn at the Silverman $100k relay. He rode 90% of the ride with one bar, I figured it cost him about 5 or 6 minutes at least..

So I still like my mens podium picks, Kyle is doing exactly what I thought he would. I hate that the announcers will not mention the T100 series, you would think he hasn’t had a good race in years according to them. And spoiler alert, he can run, and run fast.

Phillips is set up nicely right now if he can replicate or improve his 2;40 run from last year, and I expect Blu will run himself onto the podium, likely top step if he busts out one of his low 2;30’s..

No love for Foley then?
Have to expect him to run with KB and both catch Smith. Also Le Corre close enough to those two to make it worth latching on.
Funk and Phillips about the same run, on form (Phillips far more experience).

Oh for sure, I was just handicapping my pre race picks and where they stood. And not sure I would change those 3 still, I expect Foley will run well for 30k, and then as usual have some sort of problem. Blu looks tentative right now, I figure he burned some matches riding most the ride with one bar.

T100 mention! Praise be.

4 kona spots for the pro’s? Is that normal these days, or is this one of the “regional” champs as well thus more spots?

Pro Series races may have more slots? I actually don’t know. @Ajax_Bay?

Probably because it is a pro series race, imagine they all get good slot allocations. So if Blu is top 4, then a spot will go to 5th. And when are they finally going to look at Smiths running prowess, this is not a one off, dude is just a fast runner. Now he may blow up, anyone can, but he is a guy capable of a low 2;30+ run..

Yes pro series im s have 4 slots

i was curious to see if the broadcast would improve. There are 5 runners within one minute (Funk, Le Corre, Phillips, Moody and Blum) but no sign of those guys, they are only focusing on 1 guy running alone. Boring !

Le corre pacing the best so far.

I’m going Foley, Smith, Hanson, Le Corre at this point.
