Rep Murtha awarded the DoN’s highest civilian honor. There’s a pretty large online petition to have the Navy rescind the honor (not likely).

That’s just it; we’ll never really know what happened. Which is why it makes a good case for term limits.

Well at this point we know what could be discovered through the trial process. Any one of us “knowing” more than that will not happen, but even that is still much more than Murtha knew when he basically, and very publicly, convicted our guys. He’s a dirtbag through and through…THAT I know.
Fair enough, but Murtha is also “one of our guys.” 38-year military career and two Purple Hearts. This isn’t like a career politician saying this.
That said, he should have said those things privately rather than publicly.
After having read quite a bit about what happened, and watched the Frontline episode on what happened, I think I can honestly say that I know more than what Murtha did when he called these guys cold-blooded murderers. What Murtha did to those Marines was despicable, and I could care less what his military background is…it doesn’t change the fact that he smeared many good men to score political points.

So what? I could care less what his background is. Randy “Duke” Cunningham was also ex-military…that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a dirtbag. Murtha doesn’t get a pass just because he’s ex-military.
