Why was Larsen in the AG wave?
there was no pro wave just prize money for whoever came in. I went on a group ride down in Bend the week before the race I talked to the the woman who got second. She is also a pro. Anyway, Larsen’s just another age grouper these days since he’s retired.
Steve is now racing as an age grouper … he’ll be racing Vineman Half ironman in the mens 35-39 age group (along with the likes of Jens Beck, John Reback, Christophe Joly etc. … Beck & Reback were the first 2 Ag’ers last year & i believe Joly took the IM spot)
Should be a fun battle to watch!
According to the winner’s race report there was an elite wave and Larsen wasn’t in it. At that race, sometimes they have elite waves sometimes not. (In my experience in the oly race anyway).
Us fish will always have hope.
According to an interview in the Bend Bulletin, Steve intended to be in the Elite wave. He sent in his entry and the officials weren’t aware of his credentials, accidentally placing him in the AG wave. Some think if he’d had Matt in sight during the race, things may have ended differently.
last year he was listed as winning the 30-34 yr old ag. this year the 35-39 ag. matt lieto is listed as the winner of his ag. there may be an elite wave start but if the elites’ results aren’t separate what’s the difference.
