Here we go again guys: Delays '05 season

We shipped some things to Canada for a couple customers two weeks ago. That is plenty of time for the stuff to have arrived. It hasn’t.

We did some checking. There is a customs strike in Canada, or there was. I have limited information on this.

Anyway- my point is: If you are buying a bike for next season it is wise to do it now. There is no telling what other circumstances will cause inevitable delays going into the '05 season. Our experience is there are more of them as we get into the new year.

This is the sweet spot. Anyone have info on this customs strike?

I think the customs strike is part of the Public Service Alliance of Canada strike that’s been going on several weeks now. They are doing rotating strikes and it was disrupting commercial border crossings at the beginning. I haven’t heard much in the news about it lately, but here’s an article that says it’s still going on:

Hey Tom,

It’s not just customs workers, there is a rotating strike going on with our federal civil servants right now. They are on a work to rule, looking for a better contract…like $40+/hr and job security isn’t enough!

Not sure how long it’s going to last, but you are right. If you want to get something across the border either way…best plan ahead.

I think it will depend on whether it’s coming in by plane or truck. Also, depends on when the rotating strikes happen. The borders aren’t disrupted every day, I don’t believe.

This explains so much. I ship quite a bit of stuff to Canada, and what was taking 10 days is now taking 30 days.

I had a shipment (2 large packgs) coming from BC to MI by truck - it was supposed to arrive 10/22 and I got only one of them on 10/26 while the other on ecame in yesterday… both opened w/ green customs-tape over the lids! :frowning:

The strike is the only reasonable explanation, as the shipper/manufacturer was very surprised by the delays.

$40+ an hour…yeah maybe for the senior managers. What country do you live in? I am Canadian and that is about twice as much as the average publice service wage.

Oops, did I offend a striking public servant, or just a concerned fellow Canadian. I’m a local, so maybe I over exagerrated to make a point, but I don’t have much sympathy for unions and strikes in this day and age, both are old and tired. That dog just don’t hunt no more. If you want to continue this debate, I suggest we move it to the lavender room. Remember the rule, no politics on the tri forum.

Tom,

Do you sell Powertap? I would love to buy from you as a result of your great character.

I sell Powertap but do not have great character.

I am a character however.

Canada Post also has a backlog of packages in Vancouver but this would only be a problem if sent via mail.

“Canada Post also has a backlog of packages”

No big surprise there, eh? Maybe the dogsled teams to deliver the mail are on strike too!

Dogsled teams… that’s too high tech for Canada Post.
