Here are the final numbers for the bikes for those kids (hero thread):

OK, here is the deal. The four kids picked three Fisher Tyros and one Fisher Mako. 2 blue, one purle and a red Mako.

If Slowtwitchers would like to contribute 1/2 of the employee purchase price that total is $269.34. Employee purchase is 20% off of the wholesale price we pay as a bike dealer, so it’s pretty cheap.

We’re paying half of that. $269.34 is left over. Slowtwitchers have already generously donated $75 to this gift for these kids, so, what’s left is $194.34.

Now, bare in mind- these kids aren’t starving- they don’t live in Somalia. They all now have a good home in a nice house in a fine community with two outstanding parents. I wanted to do this predominantly for myself because the man and wife who took legal guardianship of the two kids who lost their parents is a good customers for years, a nice man and also a friend I see at many local events.

So, if you are interested in chipping in you have my many thanks and continued sense of wonder at how kind everyone on this forum is.

Wait, before you do anything PM me on this forum with the heading “contribution” starting now so I can shut this off when we reach the $194.34 left over. If we get within a few cents I’ll make up the difference and put the brakes on. Watch the forum for the results.

Also, the fella with kids, he says thank you very much and said he will post a note to eveyone on here soon.

If we get within a few cents I’ll make up the difference and put the brakes on.
So they are getting bikes without brakes??? That sounds unsafe Tom. Check you PMs.

Tom - Can I make a suggestion? Why don’t you keep taking the donations as long as they come. Put the overflow towards other new bikes, bike accessories, etc that can be given to your local children’s hospital or toy donation during Christmas. Or, contact your local children’s aid society to see if there are other families who can use a bike or two. I know it means more work on your part, but since the money is rolling in you might as well put it to good use. This should be written up in your local paper. Your shop should get some press for this. Great job!

That is a nice thought. Hmm. Let me think about the mechanics of this. Based on what happened so far this could get very large very fast.

I’ll see how this type of thing should be done properly and post my findings on this forum. Thanks for the idea.

…all I ask is that you put another “n” at the end of Normann Stadler’s first name, unless you are just trying to aggravate me.
