Help with Valve Extenders

I’m not very mechanical and this is my first attempt at changing tubes with valve extenders. I’m putting 20mm tires on my 404’s. I took the zipp extenders off the old tubes. Put teflon tape on the new tubes and screwed the extenders on (mimicing the way they were done on the old tubes). Left the core open. Installed on the rims with the new tires. I inflated one tire and it has a slow leak from the extender. The other wheel (which I did twice) won’t hold air at all…losing all the air back out the extender.

What am I doing wrong?

Nevermind…

Went to the ‘other’ LBS where they had 80mm tubes. Works like a charm with no hassle. Have no idea why anyone would ever mess with extenders except for the $ issue because the tubes are about $4 more than regular tubes.
