Help with some songs

I’m trying to put together a DVD of pictures of two big trips my fiance and I have taken since we’ve been together. ONe was a weekend in New York, and another was a week in Boston. I am trying to find some good music to put to it.

So far I have come up with the group Boston, but I don’t want to just have 5 songs from them. There is a tour of Fenway Park so if there is a locatable song related to the Red Sox, that would be cool.

As far as New York, I have the obvious Sinatra, but that is it. I am drawing a complete blank. Any suggestions?

Billy Joel has some great NY songs.

Boston? What about that song that goes “Please come to Boston for the Springtime…I’m the number one fan of the man from Tenessee”

Every Red Sox game includes the song “Sweet Caroline” from Neil Diamond. It will be inside baseball to your girlfriend but the refrain “good times, never been so good” gets those Red Sox fans every time. Maybe your girlfriend will enjoy the significance even if she hates Neil Diamond.

In Boston, if you hear that song the ONLY thing you think of is the Sox.

Is there a better band from Boston than The J. Geils Band?

Back in '78 when the member of *KISS *put out their solo albums, the only thing close to a hit single was Ace Frehley’s “New York Groove”.

Peace,

Paul

Another Fenway song that is more of an homage to the city is “Dirty Water” by the Standells, played after every home win.

Best song that pays tribute to Boston is “Roadrunner” by the Modern Lovers.

My personal faves are Autumn in New York and New York State of Mind.

That’s the one Neil wrote after killing a kid in a drunk driving hit & run?

There’s always Tom Lehrer’s “Subway Song” (aka “Boston”)

For NYC, there’s the song New York City, which They Might Be Giants sing (although they didn’t write it). Very cheery - ‘everyone’s your friend/in New York City.’ But there’s also tons of songs that mention Manhattan

“Ice of Boston” - Dismemberment Plan

Well, maybe not so good.

For New York-centric songs, check out the band Black 47; they are an Irish rock band from New York-Brooklyn, almost all of there tunes have an NYC slant. And, of course, Lou Reed has a song or two about life in the big city. U2’s song “New York” might also be appropriate. Maybe.

For Boston, you must have something by the Dropkick Murphys. They are about as Boston as it gets. And punk rock.

I 2nd the Murphys… here is a link to “I’m shipping up to Boston.” Good to dance to.

You beat me to it. That’s the first song I think of relating to NY. Except for the Sinatra song of course.

Aerosmith, c.1976.

For NYC, “Steppin Out” by Joe Jackson.

Augustana, Boston.

I know, a little modern for a middle ager.
