Stopped at Tom D’s this morning to pick up two things I needed to make my new bike more fun to ride, aerobottle, and computer “knob” mount. However, there does not seem to be enough room on my aero bars for both. Anybody else run into this? If so, how did you solve it? Or am I just not seeing something obvious. The stats: Carbon stryke aero bar on a Cervelo Dual with a Jetstream bottle and the standard “knob”
last year, I had profile aerolite bars. I mounted the knob on the outside left bar. aerobottle fit perfectly between the bars and the computer was on the outside. With arms extended on the bars, I just had to turn my forearm out to read the computer.
Thanks got it figured out a bit ago now I don’t know if I like it. Well I guess I will learn to. No place else to put it except the top tube, which I did consider.
Put your knob on the upward part of your aerobars. About halfway between the bend and the shifters, obviously inboard. Many of the guys I ride with have theirs where I described. I also have a heart rate monitor, so I put both on the outboard left side on a minoura space grip, so that kept them away from the aero bottle.
Jim, bunnyman is completely right about putting the computer on the outside. While this does work quite well for me, the computer is obscured by my arms. I use the profile aerodrink and since I only look at the computer every so often, I thought it was an OK sacrifice. You may not agree. I was not able to but the computer on the upward bend of the aerobars because I like using bar tape on those sections.
If I put the knob anywhere on the inside of the aerobar* *I am unable to remove the aero bottle. I ended up with it on the outside and fairly far down on the bars. I do have to shift my arm slightly to see it. I will ride like this for a while and see how it goes.
If you don’t super tighten the stub that attaches to your aero bar on which you mount your computer, you can just twist the entire unit up. I turn it up to insert the drink bottle. I turn it back down to use it… As a bonus it helps secure the drink bottle. No straps or rubber band needed. Works great.
